Okay/OK, so you want to go abroad- you've picked
your destination. There are a number of small but essential details
that need to be taken care of before travelling. Many of us travel
to foreign countries but we do not know that things do we need or
what things do we need to know before going to abroad. The things
are :
1. An International valid passport.
2. The necessary legal papers in support of the occupation mentioned
in the passport.
3. Before stamping of the visa one should take the necessary dollar
endorsement and the Bank solvency certificate from the bank.
4. Travel tax should be deposited to the bank.
5. Some International Cards should be taken. The cards are as follows
:
a. International Youth Hostel Card.
b. International Student Identity Card (ISIC).
c. International Youth Travel Card (GO 25 card).
d. International Teacher Identity card.
e. International campaign card.
f. International driving license.
6. One should collect for him/her the necessary guide books, route
map etc. in respect to the country/countries he / she is going to
travel.
7. It is more convenient to take traveller's cheque (T.C) rather
than dollar. However one should keep with him / her the photostat
copy of the traveller's cheque.
8. One should not cash a big amount of dollar or the traveller's
cheque (T.C) in the airport because of low rate.
9. One should take with him / her a sizeable number of visiting
cards as per his/her profession with him/her.
10. For upholding the image of one's own country one should take
with him/her books of information on his/her countries tourist maps,
tourist guide books; posters, view cards etc. from Government or
Non-Government Organizations.
11. During travel one should always keep with him/her the visiting
cards, papers or diary for writing addresses, pen and camera.
12. One should take with him/her the personal testimonial of success
or certificate (English version).
13. There are some guide books who may help you for cheap travel.
Here are a few of the best series available. Let's go guidebook,
Berkeley Guides, Lonely Planet guidebooks, Insight Guides, Moon
Publications guidebook.
The excitement of travel and the newness of the environment you
are in make it easy to become careless or distracted. While there
is no guaranteed way to eliminate risk when traveling, by following
a few simple rules you can reduce the chance that you will fall
victim to an attack on you or your property. Here is a list of tips
to follow when traveling in order to increase your chances for an
incident-free trip.
a. As part of your pre-trip planning, do
thorough research on the customs and political situation of every
country you plan to visit.
b. Avoid illegal drugs. You are subject to the laws of the country
in which you are traveling.
c. Avoid demonstrations, especial in politically volatile countries.
What appears peaceful can suddenly become a dangerous situation
and you could be caught in the middle.
d. Be aware at all times of your surroundings. This is not paranoia-
it's good common sense you know what feels comfortable and what
doesn's. If your instincts tell you a situation is uncomfortable,
trust them and move along.
e. Keep the receipts of all the purchases you make while abroad;
you'll be required to declare items before you re-enter.
f. Before leaving on your trip, make two sets of copies of all
your important documents. Take a set with you while traveling,
but be sure to keep it separate from the actual documents. Leave
one set with a friend or family member back home. If the worst
should happen, having access to these facts and figures will make
getting your trip back on track much easier and faster. Make sure
you get a police report documenting any of your losses.
g. Travel with a companion at night and stay in populated, well
trafficked areas. Be especially cautious if you have been drinking,
avoid arguments and don't wander the streets at dean of night.
h. Stay healthy by eating well and getting sufficient rest. If
you become ill, take care of yourself by getting the proper care.
i. Never leave your pack unattended ; everything you own is in
it. A thief knows this and will take advantage of even a few seconds
of your inattention. This holds true no matter where you are-
in a hotel, at the train station, in the train or bus, at a restaurant
or resting a park.
j. In respect to hotel selection one should think over the security
and the advantages and the disadvantages of movement and he/she
always should keep with him/her the hotel card.
k. During travelling one should certainly take with him/her a
small baggage/bag so that he/she feels comfort in movements. Because,
in many cases one has to walk and then if he/she possesses a small
or light baggage he/she feels easy.
l. One should take with him/her the necessary/prescription medicines,
First aid kit, luggage lock and tages, camera, film, battery,
toothbrush and toothpaste, soap and shampoo, comb and brush, sunscren,
moisturizers, cosmetics, deodourant, contraceptives/condoms, aspirin,
tissues, razor blades, eyeglasses, sunglasses etc.
This is only a primer on safety while traveling, but I hope it
makes you a bit more able to avoid the risks inherent in travel.
You're out to have an excellent experience; just keep your wits
about you!
Have a nice trip! Bon voyage!
